2019 Gravel Pit Chardonnay Russian River Valley

Vineyard

Knowlton Farms, Forestville, Russian River Valley. This exceptionally well farmed vineyard by Carmine Indandoli has Goldridge soils and is planted to all Wente clone. Rob was allowed input during all decisions on cropping and vine care, including full control of over calling the few minimum late season irrigations.

Winemaker’s Notes

The grapes were hand harvested at night to ensure cold fruit for a three day pre-fermentation maceration.  We hand sorted 80% of the clusters to the berry level after adding 20% whole clusters to the small stainless steel fermentation vessels. After fermentation we aged the wine for 11 months in 30% new, 35% 1 yr and 35% neutral, experienced French oak barrels. We elected to bottle the wine unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes

Very full mouthfeel, oily yet bright and fresh with crushed fresh pineapple and stone fruit flavors. Finishes long and juicy.

Technical Data

Aged 16 months on the lees. 30% new French oak. Native fermentations. Very long fermentations with weekly stirring and topping until finishing in late Spring.
